Harrison Ford Was Concerned About Turbulence From Airliner When He Landed on John Wayne Airport Taxiway

Actor Harrison Ford was concerned about turbulence from a nearby airliner when he narrowly missed a passenger jet preparing for takeoff and landed on a taxiway last month at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, according to air traffic control recordings released Friday.

“I’m the schmuck who landed on the taxiway,” Ford told the tower shortly after touching down in his single-engine Aviat Husky on Feb. 13. “I was distracted by the airliner in moving when I turned into the runway and the wake turbulence by the Airbus.”

Air traffic control had cleared Ford to land on Runway 20L, but he came in on Taxiway C after flying low over an American Airlines Boeing 737 that was holding short of the runway and minutes from taking off. Taxiway C runs parallel to the runway.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say that landing on a taxiway, instead of a runway, is a violation of FAA regulations and can subject a pilot to disciplinary action.

Harrison Ford Called Himself a ‘Schmuck’ on Newly Released Audio After Plane Mishap

Actor Harrison Ford described himself as a “schmuck” after he mistakenly landed his small plane on a taxiway at a Southern California airport last month.

In audio recordings released by the Federal Aviation Authority, Ford said he was distracted by two jets during the airport runway mishap on February 13.

The veteran actor was flying a small plane that mistakenly landed on a taxiway of a Santa Ana airport, flying directly over a waiting American Airlines Boeing 737 commercial jet that had 116 people aboard, federal officials said.

“Yeah, hi, it’s Husky Eight-Niner Hotel Uniform (call sign) and the schmuck that landed on the taxiway,” Ford is heard saying on the FAA audio recording.

When the air traffic controller said it’s “no big deal,” Ford responded that “it’s a big deal for me.”

His Aviat Husky single-engine propellor plane was cleared to land on Runway 20L at John Wayne Airport in Orange County. The FAA said the pilot repeated the approved landing clearance back to the air traffic controller.

It is not the first aviation-related incident for the star of the “Star Wars” and the Indiana Jones film franchises.

In 1999, he made a hard emergency landing in a California riverbed while flying in a helicopter with a flight instructor. And in 2000, he reportedly slid off the runway while landing a plane in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Over a decade later, while flying a two-seat, single-engine 1942 military trainer, Ford tipped a treetop and skidded down onto Penmar Golf Course near Santa Monica Airport in 2015. He suffered serious injuries after he was forced to land the vintage WWI plane after its engine failed.

After the 2015 incident, Tom Haines with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association told CNN that he had flown with Ford in the past.

“He’s a very skilled pilot. He’s very safety-conscious and goes to training routinely for all of his aircraft,” Haines said.

In 2010, Ford was honored with the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, one of aviation’s highest honors from the National Aeronautic Association.

Leaders of Local ‘Sanctuary Cities’ Vow to Remain Firm After Threats From U.S. Attorney General

Leaders from so-called sanctuary cities across Southern California struck a defiant tone Monday, stating that they would continue to protect people who are in the country illegally despite threats by U.S. Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions to cut off and even claw back grant funding from the Justice Department.

“We will fight this vigorously and still continue to maintain services to provide for our high quality of life in Santa Ana,” Sal Tinajero, a city councilman in Santa Ana, which voted unanimously to become a sanctuary city shortly after Donald Trump was elected president.

During a brief appearance at the White House briefing room, Sessions repeated previous statements that the Trump administration would seek to deny sanctuary cities some Department of Justice grant funds, but offered no new policies.

Still, officials in sanctuary cities scrambled to touch base with attorneys and explore their legal options.

15-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot While Walking Near Santa Ana Home Was Aspiring Boxer

A 15-year-old boy who was shot while he was walking near his home in Santa Ana has died, police said Monday.

Santa Ana Police officers found Isaac Gonzalez with several gunshot wounds in the 2300 block of St. Gertrude Place around 11:50 p.m. Saturday.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and eventually died Sunday, his family said.

Police said the incident appears to be gang-related and that a dark-colored vehicle was seen in the area around the time of the shooting.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Gonzalez’s family pay for funeral expenses.

He was described as a “wonderful young man” who “was loved by all.” He aspired to be a professional boxer and tained at TKO Boxing Club, which was founded to offer an alternative to gang involvement.

Rachel Cruz, whose son also trains at TKO, said she spoke to Gonzalez's family following the incident.

“They said that he pushed his friend and the bullet hit him," she told KTLA. "That’s what they’re saying — there’s different stories. It’s traumatic. And the mom’s going through something really rough.”

The incident shocked other teens in the community, who were by Gonzalez's side as he fought for his life, Cruz said.

"I know he was loved by everyone because yesterday the hospital was full of children," she said. "And I say 'children' because, to me, that’s what they are. They’re 13-, 14-, 15-year-old kids.”

Cruz said she was also present after they disconnected the 15-year-old from life support.

"We saw him there laying on that bed, and I just started praying,” she recalled.

The GoFundMe page set up in Gonazlez' memory describes him as “always respectful, courteous and helpful to anyone that he interacted with, always leaving a great impression with them.”

He is survived by his parents and two younger brothers.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SAPD Homicide Detectives at 714-245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.

Uber Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Sexually Assaulting Passenger in Santa Ana; Police Look for More Victims

An Uber driver was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female passenger who had fallen asleep in his van, officials said Sunday.

Angel Sanchez is seen in a photo released by the Santa Ana Police Department on April 2, 2017.

The incident occurred on Thursday, when the victim's friends helped her request a ride from a company gathering to her Santa Ana home because she was intoxicated, according to Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

"They did all the right things, she did all the right things," Bertagna told KTLA. "Unfortunately she came across a sexual predator."

The suspect, Angel Sanchez, 37, picked up the woman in a Toyota Sienna in Huntington Beach, police said. During the ride the victim fell asleep, and when she woke up she was being sexually assaulted in the back seat of the van on a street near her home, according to Bertagna.

"She fought him off, she broke free (and) she immediately called us," he said. "By the time we got to the location, obviously he was gone."

Officers worked with Uber to determine who the driver was and on Saturday detained Sanchez at his Costa Mesa home. Based on incriminating statements the suspect made to detectives and physical evidence, he was arrested on suspicion of various sexual assault crimes and booked on $100,000 bond, Bertagna said.

Police are releasing Sanchez's photo because they do not believe this is his first offense due to the violent nature of the crime.

"This was more than likely not the first time he’s done it, whether he’s done it as an Uber driver or in his personal life," Bertagna said. "You don’t just start out by violently sexually assaulting females while they’re passed out — you work your way up to that."

Sanchez has been working as an Uber driver for about a year, officials said, and Santa Ana police are working with Uber and other local agencies to determine which cities he worked in.

Anyone who has seen Sanchez “commit inappropriate or aggressive behavior” is asked to call 714-245-8412.

Harrison Ford Won’t Face FAA Discipline for Landing Mishap at John Wayne Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration will not pursue enforcement action against actor Harrison Ford after he mistakenly landed a small plane on a taxiway at John Wayne Airport, his attorney said.

The veteran actor on Feb. 13 landed his plane on the taxiway of the Santa Ana airport, flying directly over an American Airlines Boeing 737 commercial jet, federal officials said.

In audio recordings, Ford said he was distracted by two jets.

Ford’s attorney, Stephen Hofer, said the FAA conducted a full investigation and interviewed his client.

The agency let Ford, 74, keep his pilot’s certificate and did not place any restrictions, the attorney said in a statement.

“Mr. Ford has held a pilot’s certificate for more than 20 years, has logged more than 5,000 hours in the air, and has never been the subject of an FAA administrative or enforcement action,” Hofer said in a statement.

An FAA spokesman confirmed the agency completed an investigation into the airport incident, but refused to comment on specific cases.

“When a deviation results from factors such as flawed procedures or simple mistakes, we typically use tools including counseling and training to ensure compliance going forward,” FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told CNN.

This wasn’t the first time the actor was involved in an aviation-related incident.

Ford suffered injuries in 2015 after was forced to land a two-seat vintage WWI plane after its engine failed. He tipped a treetop and skidded onto a golf course in Venice.

In 2000, Ford reportedly slid off the runway while landing a plane in Lincoln, Nebraska. A year before, he made a hard emergency landing in a California riverbed while flying a helicopter with a flight instructor.

Authorities are looking for three people in connection with an armed robbery at a Santa Ana doughnut shop late last month, officials said Wednesday.

Two of three people involved in a Santa Ana armed robbery are seen in surveillance video released by the Santa Ana Police Department on April 5, 2017.

The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. at Donut Star, 2509 S. Harbor Blvd., the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

The three approached one of the employees in the parking lot behind the shop and one of them brandished a revolver and demanded the victim’s cellphone and money.

While the armed man waited outside with the victim, another man and a woman went inside and encountered a second employee. The second man then took out a small black semi-automatic handgun and ordered the employee to open two cash registers. The employee complied and the man and the woman grabbed money and ran out the back door. All three were last seen running east on Warner Avenue, officials said.

Both men were described as being between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall. One of them was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black bandana covering his face. The other man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan shorts and a red bandana over his face.

The woman was described as being 20 to 25 years old, medium build and is about 5 feet 7 inches tall.

Santa Ana police Wednesday released surveillance video showing a man who assaulted a 7-Eleven employee after his credit card was declined as they sought the public's help in locating him, authorities said.

The incident occurred inside the 7-Eleven located at 902 W. First St. on Feb. 11, according to a Santa Ana Police Department news release.

The man was trying to purchase a pack of M&M candy when his credit card was declined, causing him to get angry, police told KTLA.

Video showed the customer reaching over the counter and hitting the employee on his head. He then violently pushes a cash register and printer off the counter, and shoves a basket of bananas to the floor.

After, customer walked over to the end of the counter where he threw bananas at another employee and pushed a second register off the counter, police said.

His actions caused an estimated $700 of damage to the store, police said.

"Based on his actions over a 75 cent-bag of M&M's, I’m not sure what his reaction would be to something that’s really serious,” Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said about the man.

The man is described as white, 30 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11, between 180 and 200 pounds, with short black hair and a light complexion, police said. He also had black prescription glasses.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the case is encouraged to call Investigator Laura Delisle at 714- 245-8647 or email ldelisle@santa-ana.org.

The incident began around midnight when police attempted to pull a car over for a code violation, Santa Ana Police Department Cmdr. Matt Sorenson said.

The driver did not comply and a short pursuit ensued, lasting only about two minutes, Sorenson said.

The car, which had four occupants and turned out to be stolen, ended up crashing into a home near the intersection of Holly Avenue and Newhope Street, Sorenson said.

The homeowner, who identified himself as Chris, said he and his wife were just going to sleep after staying up late to celebrate his birthday when he heard two loud crashes.

The vehicle had crashed into a wall surrounding the property and then into a bedroom where a woman who was visiting had been sleeping, Chris said.

The woman was being checked out but was expected to be OK, he said.

“I came out and there was two guys that were trying to get in through the house,” the Chris said.

Chris said his wife went to check on their baby and he went to get his gun before going outside.

“So I went and got my gun and got out and kept the guy here until the police got here, which was like a minute after,” Chris said.

Chris also said a woman who exited the vehicle possibly ran through his house and out a side door before she was caught outside the home.

Video from the scene showed a woman being pulled down and taken into custody by a K-9 officer.

All four people who were in the vehicle at the time of the cash were eventually arrested, Sorenson said.

Three weapons were also recovered during the incident, Sorenson said.

No serious injuries were reported.

A Santa Ana man who allegedly exposed himself to three women and tried to sexually assault one of the victims has been arrested in Mexico, police said Friday.

Fabian Villa is seen in a booking photo released by Santa Ana police on April 14, 2017.

Fabian Villa, 28, was located Thursday in Mexico and returned to the U.S., according to a Santa Ana Police Department news release.

The initial investigation began the night of Dec. 27, 2016, when a woman was approached by the suspect as she parked her vehicle near the 1600 block of South Pacific Avenue in Santa Ana, according to the release.

Villa is accused of opening the driver’s side vehicle door, entering the car and pulling his pants down, exposing himself to the woman, according to the release.

He then allegedly forced himself on top of and tried to sexually assault the victim, who screamed and successfully fought him off, police said.

Villa got away on foot.

A surveillance image showing a man wanted in connection with an attempted sexual assault in Santa Ana was released by police on Dec. 30, 2016.

“He tried to force his upper body on me. I struggled. He just kept saying, ‘Come on, come on,'” the female told KTLA three days after the incident, sharing her story with the hope that the assailant would be caught.

Police said at the time that the same culprit targeted another couple in the neighborhood approximately 14 minutes after the first incident, though it was unclear if Villa was the suspect in that case as well.

Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna described the perpetrator as a “sexual predator” in the days following the incidents.

After the victim reported the case, the woman’s vehicle was processed for DNA evidence, and samples were then sent to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab to be analyzed.

In February, detectives were notified that DNA from the victim’s car matched Villa’s, according to police.

Santa Ana police released these two sketches of a man sought in an attempted sexual assault in the city on Dec. 27, 2016.

Additionally, two other indecent exposure victims came forward after the first case. In each case, the suspect was driving a stolen white Toyota Camry, according to the release.

The Camry was later recovered in San Diego; Villa’s identification, which he had left behind, was also found in the car, police said.

At that point, the U.S. Marshals got involved in the case and learned that Villa had fled to Mexico. The agency worked with Mexican officials to locate the suspect.

After being taken into custody and returned to the U.S. to face charges, Villa was jailed in Orange County.

He is being held on suspicion of assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense, assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft, receiving stolen property and indecent exposure, the release stated.

His bail has been set at $1 million.

The incident caused an estimated $700 of damage to the store, police said.
