Police on Sunday evening were searching for a driver who fatally struck a man on a street in Santa Ana, then apparently hit a vehicle before fleeing on foot, officials said.
Officers responded about 6:20 p.m. to the intersection of South Fairview Street and West Edinger Avenue, where they found a pedestrian who had been killed in a collision involving a vehicle, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.
Orange County firefighters responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene, Bertagna said. His name was not released.
About 7:45 p.m., detectives went to the 1900 block of West Chestnut Avenue, where the same hit-and-run driver was believed to have crashed into a vehicle, according to the lieutenant. The crash sites are about two miles apart.
It was unclear if someone was inside the second vehicle at the time of that collision, or whether it was parked, police said.
Descriptions of the suspected hit-and-run driver and the vehicle that hit the victim were not immediately available.
