The shooting occurred at El Zocalo Mexican Steak House in the 300 block of North Tustin Avenue (map) around 12:45 a.m., said Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department.
The restaurant is open until 2 a.m. on Sundays, according to its Yelp page, and Bertagna said the altercation occurred in the bar area.
One person died at the scene and four others were transported to Western Medical Center and the UC Irvine Medical Center.
Two of the four were believed to have been shooters and were detained, Bertagna said.
One of the victims had been released from the hospital and was being interviewed.
Police were also speaking to more than 20 witnesses.
Although two people had been detained, Bertagna said there may have been more shooters who were not caught.
