A young woman was found dead in Santa Ana on Friday morning, and the victim's husband has been taken into custody after a pursuit ended in a crash hours later, police said.
Homicide detectives began investigation after family members discovered the woman's body at her apartment in the 1000 block of South Standard Avenue around 7 a.m., according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
The woman -- described by police as being in her 20s -- has not yet been identified.
It was not immediately known how she died, but authorities believe she was the victim of a homicide. Investigators also don't know how long she had been dead before relatives found her body.
“At this point, we don’t know if it occurred overnight or this morning," said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. “What reason they were here, contacted her, I don’t know if it was because they hadn’t heard from her. Those are all things they’re finding out now as they interview the family members that found her.”
The woman's husband -- identified as a suspect in the case -- was taken into custody following a pursuit in Orange County hours after she was found dead, according to Bertagna.
Police were trying to question him when he apparently fled, the corporal said. The chase ended in a crash and the man -- then considered a person of interest -- was apprehended after a foot pursuit.
He was later named a suspect, although police have not said whether he has been arrested. His name was not immediately released.
