Diners at a Santa Ana restaurant scrambled to avoid a potentially dangerous situation Sunday afternoon when a tire rolled across two streets before crashing through the glass front door and into the dining room.

The incident occurred at Tacos Sinaloa — which is located in the 1400 block of East 17th Street (map) — at around 2:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo of the Santa Ana Police Department

Surveillance video from outside the restaurant captured the errant tire as it crossed over 17th Street and hit what appeared to be a fire hydrant before ricocheting quickly across North Linwood Avenue.

The fast-moving object then crashed through the restaurant’s front door, causing a number of diners to get up quickly from their table and away from potential harm’s way, the video showed.

No injuries were reported, Carrillo said, adding that a traffic collision report was taken in connection with the incident.

He did not provided any details about the collision, or about how the tire dislodged from the vehicle.

The restaurant was open on Monday, but the front door had to be boarded up as a result of the glass being shattered by the tire.

KTLA’s Jennifer Thang contributed to this story.
