A Santa Ana man suspected in a deadly shooting that occurred nearly two years ago has been captured, police said.
Detectives arrested 22-year-old Ruben Oswaldo Cielo on Dec. 11 in connection with the March 29, 2023, death of Johnny Daniel Mercado, 35, in the area of Jetty Drive and Trask Avenue, the Santa Ana Police Department posted on Facebook Tuesday.
Mercado was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The department's homicide unit "has been diligently investigating this case" and eventually identified Cielo as a suspect, the post read.
Cielo was charged by the Orange County District Attorney's Office for his involvement in the killing and is in custody awaiting trial, the Police Department said.
Details regarding the exact charges were not released.
Detectives believe there are more suspects involved in the case and are asking the public for help.
